Over the past few years, I have experienced most of the same things as you have. My life has been down-sized, right-sized turned inside out and upside down. “I’ve been there and I’m still struggling to make ends meet!”Now let me turn back the hands of time to give you an overview of my “rags to riches” story.
My “Rags to Riches” Story
Birthplace: In the Laural Homes projects ofCincinnati, OH. I was born July 9, 1956 as 2ndof 9 brothers and sisters that I know of. There are probably some half brothers and sisters that someday I may learn who they are.
Elementary Schools: I began school atWashburn Elementary School.Then graduated from Rockdale Elementary School(1st or 2nd in my Class of 68 – Bonita Davis and I shared these spots!)I developed an interest in math & sciences, especially model rocketry from my science teacher.I was fortunate enough to have passed a test to be able to attend the prestigious 6-year Walnut Hills High School beginning in the 7th grade.
I graduated fromWalnutHillsHigh School with the Class of 1974.I majored in Latin, English, Math, Social Studies and Science.In 1973, I broke my right ankle during a trampoline exhibition.In 1974, I was named Captain of the Walnut Hills High School Gymnastics Team. Then I competed during a State ofOhio Championship Rings competition with a hernia.I played the trombone for band, competed in track and field sports.I swam competive races for the Walnut Hills YMCA swim teams and obtained my Scuba certification during my high school Junior year, 1973.I enjoyed serving as a Boy Scout I believe all the way through to my Senior year when I finished as an Explorer Scout with the Cincinnati Army Corp of Engineers.
My employment experience got started with door-to-door selling Watkins products.I worked with my Uncle Charles Turnage repairing various apartment buildings around town.Then I got my 1st City job when I turned 16 as a playground supervisor at one of the city pools nearLunkenAirport.I earned my Junior and Senior Lifesaving Certifications and worked yearound as a Lifeguard, Swimming Gymnastic Instructor at the Walnut Hills YMCA under the Leadership of Mr. Charles Neal.I have fond memories of my little brother, Edwynn (Skip) Ventus.Some of my most memorable times were of my experiences as a State Youth In Government Representative for the YMCA during my Senior year.I served as a Youth Senator one year and a Youth House of Representative another year in the Ohio State Capital.
During my 1st couple of years at theUniversity ofCincinnatiCollege ofEngineering, I continued to work part-time as a Swimming and Gymnastic Instructor at the Walnut Hills YMCA.I also lead a group of High School students at the YMCA Youth Leaders which included Skip and a couple of my twin sisters, Dalene and Darene Johnson.During the 1974 Ohio State Youth In Government Session, they served as Youth Supreme Court Justices and Legislative Representatives!
After being down-sized from a Cost Engineering position, I tried multi-level marketing with Rexall Showcase International.It changed to Unicity Network.I liked the idea of marketing health products using the leverage of someone else’s efforts to generate a residual stream of income. I worked the Financial Planning sales market. I began learning about direct marketing as I sold mostly life and health insurance products. As I struggled fiercely in that straight-commission sales environment, I got caught in the credit card trap to make ends meet.
Then at the age of 48 (my wife at 45) I became the father to our now 5year-old son. Three years ago, my financial devastation reached its height when I filed bankruptcy and lost my home to foreclosure. I learned to manage financially using debit cards without credit cards. I worked the 2nd and 3rd shift warehouse jobs to help make ends meet! I developed a website and marketed a variety of drop-shipped products from it and via eBay during my 2nd shift warehouse days. During my 3rd shift work nights, I not only learned computer technician skills, I also developed another website and sold As Seen On TV products via drop shipping.
Finally, I got a Process Engineering position which lasted 1 year. As the paid engineering projects dwindled, I worked feverously developing marketing tools (a marketing plan, website, whitepaper and 450+ email database.) I knew that I had to prepare myself for a layoff. For my wife, it happened in February, 2008. For me, it happened December 31,2008.
You may be in a situation where you have been told that "some of us will be let go when there-engineering is completed!" Perhaps your company has filed for bankruptcy or changed ownership. You may have survived many other layoffs, this time you may feel it's going to hit you! Don't worry; I've been there; I'm here to help you take action while you still have income!
Since my layoff, I've been learning the ends and outs of affiliate marketing having dropped the business of selling low profit-margin products. I've learned website design, CPC & CPA marketing, affiliate marketing, article marketing, blogging, and listbuilding.
Up to my website launch, I have made no money. Like many of you, I have spent thousands of hours and dollars trying to make a profit online. I have learned enough to build a nice 7 figure income using direct marketing strategies online. CPA affiliate marketing is the most attractive to me, so I'm now learning social network marketing with the emphasis on Twitter. Now, I believe it is time for me to do what I've learned to do in order to be financially successful with online marketing. I want to help meet the needs of many of you who are unemployed, between jobs, with low paying jobs, shackled to your "9-to-5" with little freedom or fulfillment!
The real exciting news is my focusing most of my time with PrePaid Legal as an Independent Associate. I'm now certified to promote the PPL/GoSmallBiz legal/business services plans to for profit small business owners with under 99 employees. As you know, starting these ventures is not easy. With the current world economic conditions, it's even more difficult to make it. But I'm confident that this financial struggle that I'm enduring will get easier as I apply learned knowledge into action knowledge to develop financial rewarding experienced knowledge.
